THE FINAL DANCE

he took her hand and led her to the dancefloor.
the music gave him enough strength to believe that tonight is the night that he must end it all. she felt his grip getting tighter by the tempo and somehow it made her heart skip a beat that tears started to form around her eyes. he slowly whispered what he needed to say, gave her a long, lingering kiss and turned away.
the world silenced and the spotlight was on her mascara/eyeliner streaked face. alone in a crowded room...there was no comfort in the truth...he is gone.
what he told her mimicked the fading refrain towards the end of the song - uncomprehendible. she just stood there unable to utter a single sound. no one cared, no one took notice. indeed she is on the spotlight but it was a monologue...however, the only lines that she could utter were mimes
the music changed, all she could do was turn back to where she came from but the cold evening skyline was too arrogant to share its company of stars.
